MSN reach 103 goals in 2016

The world didn't need any further reminder of just how dangerous Barcelona's attacking trident of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar are but against Manchester City on Wednesday , the trio made it 103 goals for 2016,
with a little over two months of the year remaining. Messi made a goal scoring return to the side against Deportivo La Coruna after a
brief injury layoff and reinstated into the starting eleven for the visit of Manchester City scored a hat-trick to hand Barcelona victory and mark the century of 'MSN'.

Neymar returning from Olympic duty with Brazil late or Lionel Messi's injury problems have not dampened the scoring feats of the most devastating forward line in world football. Luis Suarez leads the way with 42 goals this year but has the Argentine icon just behind on 40 and Neymar a little further back with 21.

The big question now for the dynamic trio is whether they can match their 2015 tally of 137. Messi's latest hat-trick suggests the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will require no time to get back up to speed and while the 2015 record is still 35 goals away, the 'MSN' strike force make anything possible.

  2. "There have been serious errors [from City] in the game and that is always a plus," Luis Enrique said during a post-match news conference.

"Taking advantage of those mistakes is key and we've taken advantage of them. This is a game of errors. It has not been easy because of the quality and positioning of the City players is there.

"The golden ages of [Barcelona] have come when they have balanced defensive and offensive sections to be effective. And then there is Messi, who plays as if he were in the backyard."

  3. Good win for us but City were outplaying us until the Fernandinho slip to be honest. After Messi made it 1-0 they seemed to lose confidence and slowly started improving. But I thought City played good football and towards the end I just felt sorry for Pep... We were better on the day but not by 4 goals.

Luis Enrique: Whoever doubted Messi is a bit naïve

A n emphatic 4-0 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League would usually be reason for euphoria, but while Luis Enrique reflected on errors and injuries there was one subject that the Barcelona coach was unequivocal in his response - the form of Lionel Messi.
