Messi and Suarez picked up prizes but La Liga Barcelona's coach Luis Enrique, who led the team to a title

Luis Enrique snubbed

In the La Liga gala there were many snubs for reigning champions FC Barcelona. The most surprising was for the coach, Luis Enrique Martinez, who led his team to the title and yet was not included in the list of three nominees for best coach of the season.

In the end Diego Simeone won it, while the others nominated were Eduardo Berizzo (Celta Vigo) and Marcelinho Garcia Toral (formerly of Villarreal). Barcelona were not given a strong representation in the categories (bst goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder, best forward, best foreign player, best player in the league, most loved by the fans) although in the end they won two trophies.

Luis Suarez was voted best foreign player while Leo Messi won best forward. Strangely neither the top goalscorer not the Ballon d'Or winner earned the best player award, which was taken by Antoine Griezmann. A sign that La Liga were sharing the prizes out on a political basis and not a solely sporting one.

Luis Enrique: Whoever doubted Messi is a bit naïve

A n emphatic 4-0 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League would usually be reason for euphoria, but while Luis Enrique reflected on errors and injuries there was one subject that the Barcelona coach was unequivocal in his response - the form of Lionel Messi.
